Developements in Vocational Rehabilitation OT News, August 2009
Susan Bradford and Maria Cavin explain how the development of a two week ‘work matters’ group, which was run in partnership with acute and work rehabilitation services for acute inpatients over a three-month period, has had positive outcomes for clients
Abstract:
A healthy working life has been defined as one that ‘continuously provides working age people with the opportunity, ability, support and encouragement to work in ways and in an environment which allows them to sustain and improve their health and wellbeing’ (Scottish Executive 2005). The value of work is well documented within the literature including: a sense of identity; structure and routine; social networks; skills; and meaning to the concept of leisure (Kirsh et al 2005; Woodside et al 2006).
